Assistant Chief Brian J. Heavren

Appointed Assistant Chief on August 13, 2007, by
Hartford Police Chief Daryl K. Roberts, Assistant
Chief Brian J. Heavren commands over 300 sworn
police officers in the Patrol, Traffic, K-9,
Headquarters, and Emergency Services Divisions
including the Emergency Response Team, the HPD
Regional Bomb Squad, the Marine Division, and the
Crisis Negotiation Team of the Community Services
Bureau.
Assistant Chief Heavren had previously served as
Headquarters Commander, Homeland Security
Coordinator, and Commander of Emergency Services
Division for the department. During his seventeen
year career with the HPD Chief Heavren commanded the
Bomb Squad, the Northeast District Zone 3 that
includes the Northeast and North Meadows
neighborhoods, the Crimes Against Property Division,
and the Police Academy.
While serving as commander of the Hartford Police
Academy, then Captain Heavren reinstated the
Hartford Police Citizen Academy, a program to
facilitate partnerships between police and the
public. More than one hundred citizens have
graduated from the annual twelve week course.
Chief
Heavren graduated first in his Police Academy Class
of 1990. He holds a Master of Science degree in
Management and a Certificate in Homeland Security
from St. Joseph College, West Hartford, and a
Bachelors of Science Cum Laude degree in Emergency
Health Services from the University of Maryland.
Since 1984 Assistant Chief Heavren has served as a
Volunteer Fire Fighter.
