Retired Hartford Police Chief Mark R. Pawlina
Chief Mark R. Pawlina served as
Acting Chief of Police for
the City of Hartford January 1, 2004, to June 20,
2004. Chief Pawlina's twenty year career in
law enforcement began as a Hartford Police Patrol
Officer in 1983, He served as a member of the HPD's Gang Task Force in
1987. During this tenure he move up the ranks,
assigned to a variety of major divisions of the
department, including: Sergeant from 1990 to
1995 with the Patrol and Internal Affairs Divisions;
Lieutenant from 1995 to 2001 in the Major Crimes and
Community Response Divisions; and Captain and
Commander from 2001 to December 31, 2003, of the
City's South District.
Assistant Chief Pawlina has specialized training in
Community Policing Management, Community Policing and
Partnership Development, Management and Supervision,
Police and Community Problem Solving, Advanced
Homicide Investigation, Interview and Interrogation
techniques, Statement Analysis, Hostage Negotiation,
International Investigations, Gangs and Gang Related
Activities, and Field Training and Officer
Development. He has served on the HPD's Budget
Committee, Firearms Discharge Review Board, Awards and
Safety Committees, and Civilian-Police Advisory
Committee.
Assistant Chief Pawlina was graduated with a
Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics from the
University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) in 1980.
In 1982 he graduated from the New York College of
Insurance's Certificate Program in Principles of
Insurance and Risk Management.
Retired as Hartford Police Department
Assistant Chief, Chief of Detectives in December,
Chief Mark Pawlina now serves as Chief of Chatham,
Massachusetts.
