NEWS RELEASE HPD ARRESTS TWO IN EARLY MORNING SHOOTING (Hartford) - At approximately 10:08 p.m. on Tuesday, May 26, 2004, Hartford Police Department Officers of the North Community Response Division heard gun shots being fired in the area of Albany Avenue and Garden Street. The Officers responded to the area and found three (3) victims in various locations each suffering from gun shot wounds. First aid was immediately rendered to the victims by AMR Ambulance, the Hartford Police and the Hartford Fire Department. The victims were transported to Saint Francis Hospital by AMR Ambulance Services. Preliminary investigation by Hartford Police revealed that an Hispanic male shot at the three victims in the area of 485 Albany Avenue then fled in an unknown direction. The victims fled in different directions towards the rear of 485 Albany Avenue. A crime scene was believed to be in an area just west of 485 Albany Avenue, but investigation could not confirm the exact location of the crime scene. A canvass for the weapon was unsuccessful. Witnesses provided information to North Community Response Division Officers which led them to two suspects who were subsequently located and promptly arrested by North CRD Officer Pedro Rivera and Major Crimes Detective Michael Sheldon. Arrested and charged with Three (3) Counts of Assault in the First Degree, Reckless Endangerment, Unlawful Discharge of a Firearm, and Carrying a Pistol Without a Permit, was Jose Perez, DOB 4/10/85 of 254 Albany Avenue, Hartford. Perez was being held on $500,000 bond by Hartford Police and was scheduled for arraignment in Hartford Superior Court today. A second individual, whose identify is being withheld due to his/her juvenile status, was arrested and charged with Conspiracy to Commit Assault in the First Degree. Two of the victims received non-life threatening injuries. The third victim was listed in critical condition earlier this morning. The Hartford Police Department's Major Crimes Division is conducting an investigation of the incident.
