HARTFORD POLICE DETECTIVES AND D.E.A. AGENTS CAPTURE TWO INDIVIDUALS WITH STOLEN HANDGUN.

(Hartford) - On Tuesday, June 29, 2004, Hartford Police Vice and Narcotics Detectives Robert Burgos and Brenon Plourde, assigned to a a joint Drug Enforcement Administration (D.E.A.) Task Force, with Agents of the D.E.A., were on a narcotic enforcement detail in the Albany Avenue area of Hartford when, at approximately 10:30 p.m., shots were heard fired in the area of 60 Cabot Street.

Within minutes of hearing the shots, information was received from an anonymous citizen caller which provided a detailed description of a silver Oldsmobile vehicle in which two occupants were observed in possession of and firing a handgun.  Based on this information, Detectives observed the vehicle in the Albany Avenue area and began following the vehicle with assistance from the Hartford Police Department's Patrol and Vice and Narcotics Divisions.  The vehicle was followed to the intersection of Affleck and Ward Streets where the occupants were observed discarding a handgun out of the vehicle's window.    The vehicle finally stopped in the back yard of 320 Park Terrace where both occupants attempted to flee; one was immediately apprehended while the other fled through rear yards of Hamilton Street.

Hartford Police established a perimeter in the area of Hamilton Street, and with the assistance of the Connecticut State Police K-9 Unit, the other male suspect was apprehended.   An Inter-tac 9mm handgun, with a magazine and ammunition was recovered during the incident.  Upon investigation, it was determined the handgun had been reported stolen out of the State of Georgia.

The suspects, Larry Anderson, DOB 2/1/76 of 183 Collins Street, Hartford and Keyen McJimpson, DOB 11/9/76, of No Certain Address (NCA),  sustained minor injuries were treated and release from Hartford Hospital.  Both were charged with Possession of a Firearm, Possession of a Stolen Firearm, Reckless Endangerment, Discharge of a Firearm, and Interfering with Police.  Anderson's bond was set at $200,000 and McJimpson's at $180,000.

In commenting on the incident, Hartford Police Chief Patrick Harnett stated, "The work of these Detectives, with the support of information from the community, is a perfect example of how effective community policing can be, and how these Detectives did what they are trained to do, with the end result being two dangerous individuals off our streets, and a stolen handgun out of circulation."
