NEWS RELEASE HPD SEEKS EXTRADITION OF FUGITIVE SUSPECT IN SEXUAL ASSAULT CASE. (Hartford) - On Wednesday, April 28, 2004 at approximately 3:30 p.m., Detective Cheryl Gogins of the Hartford Police Department's Youth and Family Services Division obtained credible information on the exact whereabouts in Dallas, Texas of Javier Castillo (age 24 of Orlando, Florida). Castillo is wanted by the Hartford Police Department for two (2) counts of Sexual Assault in the First Degree and Risk of Injury to a Minor. These charges stem from a case reported in 2001 where Castillo who at the time of the alleged offense was sixteen (16) years old. Castillo is accused of Sexually Assaulting, on numerous occasions, a five (5) year old boy who was known to Castillo. After Detective Gogins obtained Castillo's location, she contacted local Dallas, Texas authorities, who immediately apprehended Castillo. He was placed under arrest and charged as a Fugitive From Justice. He is being held on a $500,000.00 bond, awaiting an extradition hearing. Upon completing the extradition process Castillo will be brought back to Hartford, Connecticut, where he will be formally charged with a Hartford arrest warrant for the above listed charges.
