HPD MAKE ARREST IN CHILD
ABUSE CASE.
On Thursday March
25, 2004,
The Hartford Police
Department responded to The Connecticut Children's Medical Center on a
report of possible child abuse. Upon arrival, Patrol Officers discovered a
five (5) month old female infant with severe injuries to her head and body.
The Hartford Police Youth Services Division responded to continue the
investigation. Detectives Christopher R. Arace and Dixon Vega learned that
the five
(5) month old
infant was left in the care of her biological father earlier that day while
the infant's mother went to work. While in the care of her biological
father, the five (5) month old infant sustained injuries to her forehead,
both eyes, left cheek, right cheek, right side of head, right ear, chest,
left arm, both thighs, and possible internal injuries. The injuries were
characterized by medical personnel as "serious physical injuries" and
consistent with those commonly sustained by physical abuse. The infant was
admitted into the Connecticut Children's Medical Center and listed in stable
condition.
Detectives Arace and Vega conducted a thorough investigation that resulted
in the arrest of the infant's father, DAVID ORTIZ, 09-22-1980, 975 Maple
Ave., Hartford, CT. He was charged with Assault in the First Degree and
Risk of Injury to a Minor. DAVID ORTIZ is currently being held on $500,000
bond.
