ACTING CHIEF PAWLINA INSTITUTES PERFORMANCE EVALUATION SYSTEM FOR HPD SWORN PERSONNEL.

(Hartford) - Acting Hartford Police Chief Mark Pawlina announced today that effective March 1, 2004, the Hartford Police Department, in collaboration with HPD Union President Gates Landry and other members of the HPD Union Executive Board, instituted an evaluation system to measure the performance of all sworn Hartford Police Department employees.

The new performance appraisal process reaches beyond the current standard one year probationary period, and will initially operate on a trial basis for one year," stated Chief Pawlina.  "During the one year trial period we will modify and adjust the process based on findings with respect to possible deficiencies and identified training needs, with implementation anticipated after an evaluation of the one year trial."

In working with Hartford Police Union President Gates Landry and members of the HPD Union Executive Board, "we were able to succeed in formulating and implementing a fair performance appraisal process with a goal of improving service to the public," stated Pawlina.  "A win-win for the Department and the public we serve."

"My objective, in creating a performance appraisal system, is to insure that the public is benefiting from the highest level of service from it's Police Department," stated Pawlina.
