NEWS RELEASE HPD FUGITIVE TASK FORCE DETECTIVES ARREST TWO ON NUMEROUS GUN AND DRUG CHARGES. (Hartford) - On Thursday, May 6, 2004, at approximately 1100 hours, members of the Hartford Police Fugitive Task Force were traveling north on Center Street in an unmarked police vehicle when they saw two Hispanic males, later identified as Pedro Santana and Angel Santana standing along the street. As the Investigators drove past, Angel and Pedro jumped into an Oldsmobile and started to follow the plain cloths Investigators, eventually pulling up along side the unmarked police vehicle. At that time the Investigators identified themselves as the police and order the men to pull over. Upon approaching the vehicle HPD Detective Rivera spotted in plain sight a cigar wrapper containing a green plant like substance, at which point Pedro Santana and Angel Santana were secured. Further investigation found the two to be in possession of four (4) bags of Marijuana, nineteen (19) bags of Heroin, one 9mm semi-automatic pistol, seventy (70) 9mm rounds of ammunition and $220.00 in U.S. Currency. Both Santana's were placed under arrest without incident When asked by Investigators why they were following the Investigators, the accused stated they thought they were someone else. Arrested and charged with Criminal Possession of a Firearm, Carrying a Pistol Without a Permit, Possession of Narcotics, PWITS, and Possession of a Controlled Substance was Pedro Santana, DOB 1/19/85, of 33 Elmer Street, Hartford, and Angel Santana, DOB 10/29/86, also of 33 Elmer Street, Hartford, charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance, Operating a Motor Vehicle With No License, Operating an Unregistered Motor Vehicle, Operating an Uninsured Motor Vehicle, Misuse of Plates, and Following too closely.
