HARTFORD FUGITIVE TASK FORCE NABS MURDER SUSPECT JOSE TORRES.

(Hartford) - On Wednesday, February 11, 2004, Detectives of the Hartford Police Department's Fugitive Task Force apprehended Jose Torres, DOB 5/9/80, aka "Mostrito or Monster", last know address 132 Bartholomew Avenue, Hartford, wanted in connection with the Sunday, February 8, 2004 murder of Luis Gomero of Hartford.

Early Wednesday morning, Fugitive Task Force Detectives approached friends and family of Torres emphasizing the benefit of Torres turning himself in to Hartford Police.  A short time later Detectives were contacted by Torres indicating his desire to surrender to Police.  At approximately 12:45 p.m., on Wednesday, February 11, 2003, Detectives apprehended Torres, without incident, at 171 South Whitney Street, Hartford. 

Torres is currently in HPD custody charged with Murder and Unlawful Discharge of a Firearm, pending arraignment in Hartford Superior Court.

The Hartford Fugitive Task Force ask anyone with information about this on-going investigation to contact Detective Ezequiel Laureano of the HPD's Major Crimes Division at 527-6300, extension 5423.  All information will be kept in the strictest of confidence.

This is the ninth (9) murder arrest by the Hartford Fugitive Task Force this year.  Of the four murders in Hartford this year, three have resulted in arrests.  The Hartford Fugitive Task Force is a collaboration of Hartford Police, State Police, the F.B.I., U.S. Marshall's, and Adult Probation law enforcement agencies.
