For Immediate Release: Monday, February 9, 2004 Contact: Nancy M. Mulroy, (860) 543-8746/office; (860) 982-6221/mobile THREE IN HPD CUSTODY AFTER EARLY MORNING ALTERCATION AT WEAVER HIGH SCHOOL. (Hartford) - An early morning altercation, involving students at Weaver High School, resulted in the stabbing of three (3) victims and three (3) suspects in Hartford Police custody, as reported by Detectives of the HPD's Youth Services Division, overseeing the investigation. At approximately 7:30 a.m. this morning, Hartford Police Patrol Units responded to a report from school officials of an incident involving the stabbing of three students. The victims were transported to St. Frances Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Identification of any non-juvenile victims are pending notification of family. Hartford Public School Officials, through Superintendent of School Robert Henry, emphasized that this was not a random act of violence, but an incident among individuals known to each other, and that extra security measures, coordinated through Hartford Police, School Security and Administrative Personnel are in place at the school to ensure the safety of students. Superintendent Robert Henry also indicated that while heightened security measures exist, school continues be fully operational and students are attending regularly scheduled classes without disruption. Although Hartford Police Officials have three (3) suspects in custody for questioning regarding the incident, the investigation is on-going. Detectives of the HPD's Youth Services Division are asking anyone with information about the incident that could assist in the investigation to contact YSD Detectives at (860) 527-6300, extension 5253. All information will be kept in the strictest of confidence. Identification of the victims, two of whom are 16 years of age or older, are being withheld pending notification of family.
