Hartford Police Seize Gun on School Grounds;
 Charge Student.

(Hartford) - At 9:06 a.m. this morning Hartford Police School Resource Officer Tyrone Boland, assigned to Hartford Public High School (HPHS), with the assistance of school security, apprehended a fifteen year old HPHS student found to be in possession of a pellet gun inside the building.

"The school was placed under immediate lock down and the incident was over in a matter of minutes", reported Officer Boland.  Although the pellet gun was not loaded, the male student was charged by Hartford Police with reckless endangerment in the first degree, threatening in the first degree, risk of injury to a minor, breach of peace second degree, carrying a dangerous weapon, possession of a weapon on school grounds, and interfering with police.  A second male student, age 17, was also taken into custody and charged with breach of peace second degree in connection with the incident that began with an argument between the two in the school cafeteria.

Hartford Police Chief Daryl K. Roberts, in commenting on the incident, praised Officer Boland, school security personnel and faculty of the school stating, "Their quick response in apprehending the student and seizing the gun, and immediate action in securing the school and its students, prevented any violence or injuries from occurring.  They performed with true heroism, with the security of the students first and foremost in their minds and actions."
