The victim, whose name is being withheld by police, stated while dumping out trash he was approached by the accused and four other black male suspects. The victim was dragged into the middle of the lot where he was assaulted by the accused and suspects and relieved of his cell phone and wallet. As the victim attempted to run away, four of the suspects fled the scene and were last seen running north on Laurel Street. The accused, Bozeman, began chasing the victim whereupon, in the vicinity of 41 Niles Street, several citizens intervened and stopped Bozeman from further assaulting the victim. The citizens detained Bozeman until police arrived. He was taken into custody by Hartford Police without further incident and remains in custody on $35,000 bond. In commenting on the incident, Hartford Police Chief Daryl K. Roberts said, "This is one of many examples of the willingness of citizens to help one another and police to maintain order and fight crime in their neighborhood. I commend all the citizens who came to the aid of a neighbor in distress for their bravery."
