EAST HARTFORD MAN ARRESTED IN CONNECTION WITH

JANUARY 23, 2010 MOTOR VEHICLE FATALITY CRASH

(Hartford) -  On January 23, 2010, Hartford Police Officers responded to the area of Chandler Street and Coolidge Street on a report of a serious car crash involving a 2010 white Ford Taurus and a  2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee.  Upon arrival officers observed that there were seven injured occupants and that one party was still trapped inside Ford Taurus which was smoking.

The Hartford Fire Department responded to the scene and extricated the trapped party.  All seven injured occupants were transported to area hospitals for medical treatment.  The trapped party, later identified as 14 year old Alexis Cruz of 912 Mary Sheppards Place, was pronounced deceased at Hartford Hospital.

Detectives of the Hartford Police Department’s Crime Scene Division investigated the incident and determined that alcohol and speed were contributing factors in the crash.   Hartford Police Detectives applied for and obtained an arrest warrant for Anthony Harris (10/10/88) of 30 Hamner Street #2, East Hartford for Manslaughter 1st Degree, Operating Under the Influence, Reckless Driving, and Operating Without a License.

On March 23, 2010, detectives from the Hartford Police Department’s Intelligence Division and Fugitive Task Force with assistance from the East Hartford Police Department arrested Harris at his home.  A $100,000.00 bond was ordered.
