HPD Apprehends Murder Suspect. (Hartford) – On Thursday, October 23, 2003, at approximately 4:45 p.m., Hartford Police Department Patrol Units responded to the area of 3250 main Street “Save-More-Gas-Station” on a report of shots fired, called in by Sergeant E. Dailey. Based on information provided by witnesses, a vehicle speeding away from the scene was located and stopped at the intersection of Garden at Westland Street. Subsequent investigation revealed that the victim of the shooting occupied this vehicle and an ambulance was immediately summoned. A search of the area along the North Meadows for a potential suspect was unsuccessful. The victim, identified as Craig Johnson, age 18, was transported to Saint Francis Hospital where he was treated and released for a gunshot wound to his right elbow. Upon his release, Craig Johnson was transported to Hartford Police Headquarters where he was arrested for an outstanding warrant charging him in the January, 2002 murder of Ernest Welborne, Jr., that occurred on East Raymond Street in Hartford, Connecticut.
