INVESTIGATION OF CHILD ABDUCTION INDICATES THAT THE EVENT MAY NOT HAVE TAKEN PLACE

On November 4, 2003 at approximately 8:30 A.M. Hartford Police Officers responded to Burr School in Hartford on a complaint of an abduction of a 12 year old who was returned unharmed.  Initially resources were brought into the area in attempt to locate a suspect and suspect vehicle.

The Hartford Police Youth and Family Services Division immediately initiated an investigation of the incident.  The investigation has failed to yield any facts that would indicate that the incident actually occurred.  Various inconsistencies point toward the fact that the abduction had not occurred.

This incident is the third such abduction report whose investigation has reached the same conclusion within the past two weeks in the City Of Hartford.

At this time there is no apparent reason for alarm due to a threat of an abductor active in the Hartford community.  The Hartford Police is asking that the community continue to maintain vigilance and report any suspicious activities they may witness.  That parents talk to their children about staying safe around people that they do not know.
