HPD Vice and Narcotics Division make 44 Arrests in Reverse Sting. (Hartford) – On Tuesday, November 18, 2003, beginning at approximately 10:00 a.m., HPD Vice and Narcotics Division Detectives conducted a city-wide “reverse sting” operation in response to citizen complaints of drug dealing. Detectives posed as drug dealers at 8 Center Street and 1631 Park Street in an attempt to arrest individuals who were attempting to purchase narcotics. As a result of the operation, a total of 44 persons were arrested on numerous illegal drug activity charges. Charges included Possession of Narcotics, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Interfering with Police, Prostitution, Criminal Attempt to Possess Narcotics and Criminal Attempt to Possess a Controlled Substance. In comment on the operation, Lt. Harold Even, Commander of Vice and Narcotics, stated, “Our goal is to make it known that the city is relentlessly pursuing those who support the proliferation of illegal drug activity in our community. People should be aware that we are out there and will be conducting similar operations at various times and locations. Both the buyers and sellers should beware.” Lieutenant Even also stated that “an excellent job was put forth by all Vice and Narcotics detectives in this reverse sting operation.” Attached is a listing of individuals arrested, their addressed, and charges. The listing of those arrested will also be published on the Hartford Police Department’s Website, www.hartford.gov, click on HPD News. The Hartford Police Department is also asking local print media to publish the names of these individuals, particularly in their local hometown newspapers. The Hartford Police Department asks for the community’s support in its investigations of illegal drug activities by calling it confidential tip hot line, 525-GUNS. The HPD assures that all information will be kept in the strictest of confident.
