HPD Patrol Division Makes Arrest for Attempted Assault With a Firearm.
(Hartford) – At approximately 1:20 a.m. on Tuesday, November 25, 2003, units of the Hartford Police Department’s Patrol Division responded to the area of 49 Elliott Street on a report of an attempted assault with a firearm. Upon arrival Patrol Officers met with the victim, a Yellow Cab Driver, who indicated that he had responded to 49 Elliot Street to pick up a customer, but when he arrived the man attempted to shoot him. The victim indicated that the accused told him that he changed his mind about taking a cab because he just had an argument with his wife. The victim further related that when he told the accused the cab company would not respond to that address anymore the accused displayed a gun and proceeded to attempt to shoot him by squeezing the trigger. The gun did not fire and the Cab Driver fled the area.
The accused was located by Officers Hopkins and Figueroa of the HPD’s Patrol Division and taken into custody. Arrested and charged with Criminal Attempt To Commit Assault in the First Degree, Criminal Possession of a Pistol, Reckless Endangerment in the First Degree, Criminal Trespass in the First Degree, Violation of a Protective Order, Interfering With Police, Possession of Marijuana, and Possession With Intent To Sell, was Kevin Perry, DOB 9/3/82, of Westland Street, Hartford. Perry is currently in police custody on $50,000 bond awaiting arraignment.
In commenting on the arrest, Supervising Sergeant Clifford Smith of the HPD’s Patrol Division stated, “The excellent police work by all responding officers led to the quick arrest and removal from our streets of a of dangerous person and quite possibly saved a life.”
