HPD Dignitary Protection Training School Graduates 24 Law Enforcement Officials.

(Hartford) – The Hartford Police Intelligence Division graduated twenty-four law enforcement officials from its Dignitary Protection Training School, which ran from November 17-21, 2003.  The class was comprised of law enforcement officers from the Hartford Police Department, State Capitol Police, East Hartford Police Department, New Britain Police Department, Connecticut State Police, and the Governor’s Security.

Lieutenant Robert O’Connell and Sergeant Luis Rodriquez of the Hartford Police Intelligence Division founded the HPD’s Dignitary Protection School to teach officers from Hartford the proper methods of protection visiting dignitaries such as the President, Vice President, and foreign heads of state.  Law enforcement organizations from around Connecticut have made requests to receive this training that includes protective intelligence, defensive tactics, motorcade escorts, and explosives identification.  The United States Secret Service Resident Agent in Charge, Sean Q. Gallagher, provided training in protective intelligence and threat assessment investigations.

The Hartford Police Department has assisted the Secret Service, U.S. State Department, U.S. Capitol Police, C.I.A., F.B.I., and foreign protective services on numerous protective details for visiting dignitaries in the City of Hartford.  An important aspect of a protective detail is ensuring the protectee’s visit to Hartford is safe and enjoyable while promoting the City as a destination with many historical and entertaining attractions.

The Hartford Police Department would like to thank the United States Secret Service, U.S. State Department, Royce Gracie Jiu-Jitsu of West Hartford, CT, the Learning Corridor, Goodwin Hotel, Bushnell Center for the Performing Arts, and Wadsworth Atheneum for their support and commitment to ensuring the success of the Hartford Police Department’s Dignitary Protection School, a benefit to policing throughout Connecticut.
